dc.descriptionΠαραδοσιακό ελληνικό τραγούδι με μουσική καταγραφή και ποιητικό κείμενο = Greek traditional song with musical transcription and lyricsel
This sung version of the Ikariotiko dance has a "carpe diem" theme, painting a picture of the inevitable end of each human life and encouraging dancing and making merry. The song is a strophic composition, each verse having a single rhyming couplet in trochaic tetrameter, repeated either unchanges (ab-ab) as in the first verse or reversed (ab-ab) as in the remaining verses. The melody contains four very similar melodic phrases, corresponding to the four lines in each verse, and is written in the duple time typical of thei type of island dance (syrtos).en
