dc.descriptionΠαραδοσιακό ελληνικό οργανικό = Greek traditional instumentalel
This dance, with its duple (2/4) rhythm, is a type of syrtos. It is the dance most characteristic of the island, and each locality has its own variation. Indeed, each individual instrumentalist plays his own version. With its rich and varied expression, the Kariotiko is the musical trademark of the island. This collection presents four variations of the Ikariotiko. One (LMS_AGTM_25) is played by Giannis Mamatas, the lst of the island's famous lyrists, from the village of Droutsoula. The other three (LMS_AGTM_ 26+27+28) are played by Professor Dimitris Themelis, no.26 and no.28 on the lyra and no.27 on the fiddle. The transcriptions of these four versions of the Kariotiko record only the motifs and the main thematic units, without the many repeats.
